

Professional Profile
Dr Adrian Maher is a Brisbane-based gastroenterologist who specialises in both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. He has a particular interest in endoscopic procedures that help prevent and diagnose cancer and in providing tailored, individualised care.
His approach is built on three principles:

Education and Training
- Dr Maher completed a Bachelor of Medical Science and a Doctor of Medicine at Griffith University, graduating as Dux of Medicine with the University Medal and Dean’s Medallion. He later completed a Master of Internal Medicine through the University of Sydney
- His clinical training was undertaken at Toowoomba and Greenslopes Hospitals, followed by specialist gastroenterology and hepatology training at Mater Adult Hospital and Princess Alexandra Hospital.
- He subsequently completed a two-year fellowship in interventional endoscopy at Princess Alexandra Hospital, gaining expertise in advanced techniques such as endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), complex polypectomy, and ERCP. He has also undertaken further training at Brigham and Womens Hospital in Boston, affiliated with Harvard Medical School, further refining his skills in advanced endoscopic ultrasound.




Academic & Teaching Roles
Dr Maher is actively involved in medical education as a Lecturer at the University of Queensland. He also mentors and teaches gastroenterology registrars at the Mater Adult Hospital, supporting the next generation of specialists through both clinical and academic training.
Research & Publications
Dr Maher is actively involved in clinical research, with publications in leading endoscopy journals on interventional endoscopy. He is the site lead investigator for a national pancreatic cancer registry study, contributing to collaborative efforts to improve patient outcomes in pancreatic disease.
